Tacoma history shared across state

Port Lincoln Times,
14th June 2016

The story of Port Lincoln's historic tuna boat, the MFV Tacoma, will be featured this weekend on SALIFE television.

Presenter Briony Hume said she loved visiting Eyre Peninsula and was fascinated to learn about the Tacoma and its "surprisingly difficult and sad history" on her last visit to Port Lincoln.

"It's such a great story; I was vaguely aware of it but I had no idea how much history was attached to it," Ms Hume said.

Tacoma Preservation Society president, Ross Haldane, gave her a tour of the vessel and an impromptu lesson in fishing with a tuna pole.

"He's the most charming old salt I have ever come across and before I knew it, I was helmet o, over the side of the boat, poling tuna."

Ms Hume hoped the episode would let more people know the boat was open to the public for tours on request so people could go aboard and find out more about the boat and the city's fishing history.

The episode will air this Sunday, June 19 at 5:30pm on Seven.
